  • How do I determine my style?
Your style is a collaboration of looks that you are drawn to. It doesn't have to fall under one particular style, such as "Traditional". It can be a hybrid of styles and is unique to you and the existing conditions of your space. Your style should define you both aesthetically and functionally.
  • How do I choose between function and the look I'm trying to go for?
Function will always win over Form (style). Think about the pair of shoes you had to have months ago but now they collect dust in your closet because they give you horrible blisters. The same goes for furniture and finishes. It must fit your lifestyle or you will always wish for something different.
  • How do I determine a budget?
When considering a budget for your project consider a couple things. First, how long do you plan on keeping the new look (furnishings)? If the sofa you are purchasing needs to last 10-15 years you might consider buying a quality piece that is meant to last in style and durability. Also do your homework on what a realistic budget looks like for the items you will be purchasing. A bathroom remodel can range from $10,000-$40,000+ depending on materials and labor costs. If you plan to gut the space and move plumbing/electrical I would plan for the higher side of that number. The same can be said for a kitchen remodel. A simple refresh of paint, hardware and countertops might be closer to $10,000 but if you are replacing cabinetry, appliances, flooring etc. then you are looking upwards of $30,000-$50,000. Lastly, don’t spend more than you are comfortable spending; nothing looks good through the eyes of buyer’s remorse. I have the ability to mix price points and vendors to get you the look you are trying to achieve. You don’t have to spend a fortune for good style but being realistic about your needs and available spending power is key.
  • What additional costs can I expect?
At FLAG Interior Design, I do my best to give you a full cost outlook of each Phase of the project and the items being purchased. Additional costs such as shipping, installation, or unexpected labor do occasionally happen.
  • Can I add additional rooms after the proposal has been signed?
Yes, we can discuss adding to the scope of the project but an additional proposal for those design fees must be agreed upon in writing.
  • How long do the projects normally last?
This depends on the scope of the project, construction timelines and what is purchased. Occasionally there are delays caused by weather, vendor vacations, factory errors, and other unpredictable influences, that are out of my control. Everyone involved: designer, client, vendors, and contractors are expected to not cause unreasonable delays in the project.
  • Can I shop on my own?
Yes! After the completion of Phase I you will have a space plan, design concept and realistic budget. If you would like to shop on your own you are more than welcome to do so. If you choose to hire me for Phase II I will handle all the sourcing, and purchasing necessary to complete your design plan aesthetically, functionally and within budget. If there are existing items such as furniture or décor that you would like to work into the design concept please present those as early in the Phase II as possible.
  • How do I place an order?
Once you receive a Purchase Order from FLAG interior design you have 3 days to either accept or decline the item. If you accept, a signed copy of the PO and full payment is required to place the order.
  • Can I change my mind after an order is placed?
Most items cannot be returned or canceled therefore requests to do so will be assessed on a per item basis; custom items cannot be canceled or returned.
  • Do you offer virtual consultations?
Yes, I do! A simple questionnaire and room measurements help guide me to what you are looking for in updating your space. I will provide you with a space plan and links to purchase all furnishings and fixtures. If you are interested in hiring me for virtual design services you will be responsible for site measurements, procurement of furnishings and fixtures, and services provided by contractors.
